The role of Operational Communications Manager is integral to the seamless mobilization and execution of Capita’s Disabled Students’ Allowance (DSA) contract on behalf of the Student Loans Company (SLC). This role operates both at a strategic and operational level, serving as the subject matter expert in internal and external operational communications, all aimed at ensuring the successful implementation and delivery of the program.

Your key responsibilities include the development of all communication assets and safeguarding the reputation of the program, the client, and Capita. You will collaborate with subject matter experts within Capita’s Corporate Communications team and foster strong relationships with operational directors, heads of service, client counterparts, program managers, and the DSA operational team. This role is situated within the Health, Education & Welfare Communications team.

What You’ll Be Doing:

1. Define a compelling vision for the communication solutions required to ensure the successful launch and execution of the contract.
2. Devise, strategize, and execute the communication and engagement plan for the DSA program, incorporating client needs and aspirations and aligning with Capita’s broader corporate communication plans.
3. Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure unity and consistency across all communication products and stakeholder engagement activities.
4. Lead the communication aspects of the program mobilization plan in collaboration with delivery partners.
5. Develop user-facing communications to support program operations.
6. Proactively and reactively manage the reputation of the program, the client, and Capita in partnership with Capita’s corporate communication experts.

About work from home Program at Capita:

In July 2023, Capita was selected under a framework agreement by the Student Loans Company (SLC) to provide needs assessments, assistive technology, and assistive technology training for students receiving Disabled Students’ Allowance (DSA). Capita’s services cover students funded through Student Finance England (SFE) and Student Finance Wales (SFW) in East England, the Midlands, London, and Wales, and SFE and SFW-funded students studying in Northern Ireland.

This marks a significant change in how DSA is managed. Capita will offer a single point of contact for approximately 30,000 university students annually, from initial needs assessments to sourcing and delivering assistive technology, including laptops, specialized learning software, desks, and chairs. Capita will also provide training to students on using this technology and offer ongoing support. The program includes a digitally enabled customer experience portal to manage needs assessments, progress claims, and procure specialist technology. This will result in a smoother and more efficient experience for students, meeting their needs more promptly with higher-quality equipment, software, and training.
